Azzurro Toscana IGT "Super Tuscan" BASF Exklusiv 2015

The winery Fattoria Nittardi is located in the Marrema district right in the heart of Tuscany. In the 16th century, the property was owned by the famous artist Michelangelo Buonarroti who recognized the soil and climate's potential for wine growing. Every year, Michelangelo extended a couple of bottles to the pope in Rome, a tradition which the current owners Peter Femert and his wife Stefania Canali-Femfert maintains to this day.

The name of this BASF Exklusiv wine was inspired by the azure blue sky of the Maremma region. “Super Tuscan” is a term used to describe red wines from Tuscany that includes grapes not indigenous to Tuscany like Cabernet Sauvignon. Tuscan winemakers began blending unsanctioned wines in the 1970's to make high quality blends and today Super Tuscans are some of the most saught after wines of the region. Azzuro is a compelling blend of Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese, with flavors of cherry, cassis and blackberry. A pleasant and balanced oak completes the blend. Enjoy this wine with a hearty saltimbocca or other traditional Italian dishes and it will complete the true Italian experience.
