Wines from the Niepoort winery have been available in our Wine Cellar for decades. Dirk Niepoort is arguably the most important person in red wine cultivation in the Douro Valley. His fabulous Fabelhaft creation has achieved cult status among wine lovers around the world.
For BASF he has gone one better and created the Foundation Blend 1865. The label is a true conversation piece, with notable events that occurred in 1865, the year that BASF was founded. But you can be certain the blend is just as interesting as the label! For this wine, Niepoort used the native grape varieties Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Tinta Amarelais. The grapes were handpicked from vines ageing from 10 to 40 years. The blend was fermented in stainless steel tanks, and thereafter it went through malolactic fermentation in wood barriques and ageing of 6 months in oak. Enjoy the aromas of black berries, plums and sweet cherries. Completed by soft oak notes and silky tannins is this the perfect barbecue wine or just to enjoy the evening after finishing work.
