The first in the long line of winemakers in the Kimich family was the wine cooper Andreas Kimich who founded the winery in 1758. The estate was managed by the Kimich family for five further generations. In 1949 Joachim Arnold married a daughter of Julius Ferd. Kimich and took over the management. Today, his son Franz and grandson Matthias mange the business. Through careful work in the vineyard and cellar, they produce top-class wines.
This Riesling is from Langenmorgen, which is considered one of the best vineyard sites in the Palatinate area. Langenmorgen first appears in records in 1491 and its name means "long morning", due to its well exposed south-east facing location. The combination of exposure, shade in the evening hours, and red sandstone rock soil gives Riesling from Langemorgen pronounced peach and apricot flavors. Drinking this wine young, it is fresh, almost effervescent with the typical aromas of citrus and juicy peach. It is however a wine that will mature wonderfully and we think it is a fantastic value for money!
This BASF Exclusive wine, which is a collaboration between BASF Weinkeller and Weingut Kimich, won the coveted first place at the State Awards of the Agricultural Chamber of Rhineland-Palatinate. For decades, the state award has been the undisputed authority in the evaluation and awarding of premium wines. This wine is something very special and it embodies the fresh Riesling style in perfection.
