Markus Schneider is a real self-made man. He grew up in a small German village where his father had an agriculture company producing various kinds of fruits. The grapes were delivered to the local cooperative. After Markus finished school, he decided to become a winemaker and started his training at the famous wine estate Bürklin Wolf. Three years later, in 1994 Markus returned back home to open his own wine estate. He received a little capital from his parents to purchase a car. Rather than a car, Markus purchased a wine press and started to produce wine. Today he cultivates more than 90 hectares and he produces more than 700,000 bottles of wine annually. His blends like the Ursprung and Black Print are popular brands in Germany and abroad. He wins awards year after year and in 2014 he was honored with the title “National Wine Entrepreneur of the Year” by the publishing house Meininger in Germany.

The grapes for the red wine Auszeit BASF Exclusive originate from different vineyard sites of the Palatinate. Gravel sands and brash are the dominating soils for those barren and very dry soils. In this wine, the Bordeaux varietals Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot meet the German red grape variety Cabernet Dorsa. It is a combination that works great and the result in a fruity wine with aromas of black berries, cherries with hints of chocolate. The taste is smooth and finishing with dark tannins. Take a time out, enjoy this wine with a nice roast, your favorite cheeses, or why not just savor a glass by itself.
