The Georg Mosbacher estate was founded in 1921 and it is still a family winery. In 1993, it was admitted into the Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter (VDP), which is a German organization that promotes the country’s top wines and estates. It unites 200 of Germany’s finest wineries and offers the customers guarantees on quality and yield. The current proprietors, Sabine and Jurgen Mosbacher-Düringer say that they “live for Riesling wines and love Burgundy varieties and Sauvignon Blanc.”
The BASF Exclusive Wachenheimer Altenburg Riesling is an opulently fragrant Riesling with a real fruit potpourri of peach and ripe yellow fruit on the nose. It is balanced and juicy on the palate, it has a full body and fine minerality. The finish is spicy and extremely complex and lingers for a long time. It is classified as VDP Erste Lage, which means that it is a Premier Cru wine from a first-class vineyard where optimal growing conditions can be found. Wines must be grown and made with a view to sustainability and tradition.
