The two wineries Motzenbäcker in Palatinate and the Krug`scher Hof in Rheinhessen are managed by the Menger-Krug family. The Motzenbäcker estate is idyllically situated in a sea of vineyards on the outskirts of Deidesheim. Biodiversity in the vineyards is important to the family as only healthy soils can guarantee excellent vine quality and top wines.
Marie Menger-Krug has been overseeing the sparkling wine production since 2015 and with great success! All her sparkling wine are made from top quality grapes from the vineyard sites around Deidesheim, and by using the labor-intensive Methode Traditionelle. But don’t let this fool you, this wine is far from being traditional! Sauvignon Blanc is very rarely used as a foundation for sparkling wine. Not even in Sauvignon Blanc’s ancestral home of Loire… We therefore found it difficult to stylistically describe this wine. It is elegant, which is typical from Sauvignon Blanc grown in Germany, but it has warm tropical notes like the ones from South Africa. The perlage is lively, and the aromas of star fruit, peach, lime, white currant, kumquat and toast bubble up in the glass. This is a special wine, intense without being eccentric, and it is extremely encouraging to drink.
