The Schneider family has been growing wine in Ellerstadt for more than 250 years. Until 1990, they delivered all the grapes from their 7-hectare family estate to a cooperative. This changed in the 1990’s with the purchase of an old, abandoned winery and the entry of their son Markus into the business. Under his direction, more vineyards were leased, bought, and traded until the company had grown to its current size of around 100 hectares of vineyards. Half of which are planted with white and half with red grapes. Markus Schneider's enthusiasm for experimentation and excellent wine making has led to numerous awards. For instance, in 2006 he was named "Discovery of the Year" by the Gault Millau Wein-Guide Deutschland and in 2007 he was named "Climber".
This Sauvignon Blanc is made from grapes grown in temperate vineyards with well irrigated limestone soils at high altitudes. This special location and healthy grapes harvested in different stages of maturity is a simple but effective recipe for success. In New Zealand, the overseas home of Sauvignon Blanc, KAITUI means tailor in the Maori language.
