Since joining the VDP in 2015, the Rings winery has consistently proven itself to be among the top producers in the Palatinate. From the very beginning, the BASF wine cellar has followed the impressive development of the Rings brothers. We are proud of our long-standing close collaboration and our BASF Exclusive Rings line of red wines. Just as the winery’s focus has shifted from Bordeaux-style red wine blends to high-quality Rieslings and Pinot Noirs, this wine represents the evolution of our collaboration. The majority of the grapes of this Pinot Noir come from the Großkalbach site Wolf, 30% from the Hasenzeile in Leistadt, and 20% from young vines in the top site Kallstadter Steinacker. The grapes were mainly aged in large wooden casks. The result is a Burgundy style Pinot Noir, not a lightweight, but a Spätburgunder characterized by harmonious tannins and invigorating freshness, with varietal aromas of sour cherry and rich forest floor. It’s hard to believe that we’re only in the “entry level” of the winery’s offerings.
